A breathtaking island in the Mediterranean Sea, Sardinia is Italy’s beach paradise. It is full of sandy beaches and hiking trails that you will definitely love to explore and if that is not enough it also has numerous Nuraghi to make the exploration more interesting and memorable. Nuraghi are basically stone ruins that date back to the Bronze Age and look like huge beehives. But don’t worry the place is not just for history buffs, it offers something for everyone from scuba diving to windsurfing, sea kayaking, and numerous peaceful spots where you can relax.
Many of the beaches also have places where you can hire water scooters and speedboats in case you want to explore and move about the island. If you are short on time and would like to make a quick trip to see the best of Sardinia, we recommend you visit these 5 beaches. They are enough to make your visit memorable.
01 Cala Goloritzè – Baunei
This beach can be easily reached by road and though public transport is good, it is best you book a rental car. It will save you time and will allow you to make your own schedule.
The beach is really long, about 30 meters in length and water is ultra-transparent. The water temperature here is slightly colder because of the frozen water river that falls into the bay. It is Ogliastra’s finest beach!
Goloritzè was given the title of “Italian National Monument” in 1995.
02 Porto Istana – Olbia
Located on the south of Olbia, just a few minutes from Porto San Paolo, Porto Istana beach is a destination in itself. People like to spend days and weeks on this beautiful island (which is the main reason that it is full of B&Bs and villas), it is a great stop if you are a diver or a surfer.
If you are not water sport enthusiast, the Island is also dotted with great restaurants and cafes where you can spend some time, talking and making memories while savoring the best food and beverage both local and international. The beach is close to a famous marine park called Area Marina Protetta di Tavolara.
03 Spiaggia Del Principe
It is Costa Smeralda’s most beautiful beach; it is 250 meters long beach and is divided by rocks in the middle.
This small beach offers parking and access to beach chairs, umbrellas and even a bar. This beach is great for people who are into snorkeling. It is one of the many beaches that are considered safe for children.
04 Porto Giunco Beach
This beach is located close to Villasimus which is about 40 km from Cagliari. Majority of people passing by Villasimus, visit Porto Giunco Beach – the ‘pearl’ of south-eastern coast.
The beach has white sand and light blue water – which makes it ideal for some great Instagram-worthy photo ops.
The beach offers a lot of opportunities for Trekkers especially the hike to the tower of Porto Giunco, which offer some great panoramic views of the bay.
05 La Pelosa Beach
La Pelosa Beach is located in the heart of the Mediterranean; it sits on the northwestern tip of Sardinia and is just 1.2 miles from Stintino.
